AkzoNobel re-claims top industry ranking in Dow Jones Sustainability Index

Tuesday 12th September 2017

AkzoNobel, the global paints giant and a member of WorldGBC’s Corporate Advisory Board, has returned to the top of the influential Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) for the fifth time in six years, to lead the rankings for companies in the Chemicals industry.

The company has now featured in the top ten for 12 consecutive years, underlining AkzoNobel’s commitment to working with customers to develop sustainable solutions that make a positive impact on the whole value chain.

The latest listing, published on Monday, represents a quick and successful response from the company after its run of four consecutive years at the top came to an end in 2016.

Thierry Vanlancker, CEO of AkzoNobel said: “It’s a great achievement to be leading our industry again. We made a huge effort to improve in areas that needed to be addressed and being ranked first again proves the impact we can have by putting sustainability at the heart of our business strategy.”

Regarded as a respected independent sustainability ranking system, the DJSI World Index benchmarks the sustainability performance of leading companies based on environmental, social and economic performance, including forward-looking indicators.

The DJSI also features other WorldGBC Partners, including BASF in the Materials category; City Developments Limited, Land Securities and Lendlease featured in the Real Estate category, and Saint Gobain and Philips featured in the Capital Goods category.

In other news, City Developments Limited (CDL), also a member of WorldGBC’s Corporate Advisory Board, has been recognised for its outstanding leadership in sustainability performance and reporting. It was awarded the ‘Best Sustainability Report for Established Reporters (Mainboard and Catalist)’ at the inaugural Singapore Sustainability Reporting Awards and was named as Regional Sector Leader for the Office Sector in Asia for the Global Real Estate Sustainability Benchmark (GRESB).
